The Yoga belt: A tool for many positions
The yoga belt, also called a yoga strap, is part of the basic yoga equipment set up, together with the yoga mat and the yoga block. A yoga strap greatly facilitates your yoga practice, and can be used in many different asanas. It helps you, even as a beginner, to enjoy advanced asanas while still respecting your body’s limitations. And as an advanced yogi, it allows you to correct your alignment without losing your footing. In the Bodynova shop you will find yoga straps in different colors and designs. So you will always find the right yoga belt for your individual yoga practice.
Yoga strap - Easy help for difficult positions
A yoga belt helps you easily attain even difficult asanas. Usually it is used as an extension of the arms or legs, for example, in the seated forward bend(Paschimottanasana) or the hand-to-big toe position (Hasta Padangusthasana) to grasp the foot without straining the spine. And in backbends such as the pigeon (Eka Pada Rajakapotasana) or the dancer (Natarajasana), the yoga belt helps you enjoy the benefits of these asanas without putting too much strain on your lower back. With the help of a yoga belt, you can safely stretch your limits while minimizing the risk of injury.
In yoga styles with a strong focus on the correct alignment, as in Iyengar Yoga, yoga belts, blankets and yoga bricks are often used. Iyengar Yoga is especially interested in making yoga accessible to as many people as possible. Here the yoga belt is a wonderful tool to enable even people with physical limitations, the beneficial and healing aspects of various asanas. But also in more athletic yoga styles such as Hatha or Vinyasa Yoga, the yoga strap is often used to work on the correct alignment or to explore the asanas from a completely new angle.
Yoga belt by Bodhi: It depends on the right length
A yoga belt is made of a long cotton band with a metal or plastic buckle at one end. The buckle of the yoga belt can be adjusted to the exact length you need in the moment, to for example, extend the arms in certain asanas. The closure also allows the yoga belt to be looped to better grip the foot in certain asanas or to keep the arms in a shoulder-width position.
Our yoga straps are 3.8 cm wide and either 2.50 m or 3 m long. The yoga belt should be at least 2.50 m long so that you can use it in as many yoga positions as possible. For most, this length is perfect. The 3 m long yoga belt is recommended especially for yogis 1.80 m or taller. Please bear in mind that a strap which is too long can be a hindrance in your yoga practice. So choose the yoga belt that best suits your body size and yoga practice.
The right closure for your yoga belt
At Bodynova you can find yoga straps with plastic or metal closures. Which material you choose here is up to your personal taste. Both closures are easy to operate and of excellent quality and durability. The plastic closure is particularly of interest for those who are allergic to metal, while the metal closure may be better for those who wish to avoid plastics. Ultimately, it's about choosing a material that will help you feel comfortable with your yoga practice.
The closures of the yoga straps are square sliding buckles. These are very easy to use and fix the yoga strap so that even in demanding positions nothing can slip. You simply adjust the buckle to set the appropriate length for the respective asana, knowing that it won’t slip. You can then focus on your breath and your yoga practice.
In all the colors of the rainbow
The color you choose for your yoga belt is a question of personal taste. So you can choose the color of your yoga belt to match your yoga outfit or the color of your yoga mat and accessories. If you practice yoga outdoors often, we recommend a darker color so that dirt is not easily visible. Otherwise, you can let yourself be guided by your taste.
Incidentally, our yoga straps are 100% cotton and machine washable up to 40 degrees. It's best to put them in a laundry bag to protect the closure and your washing machine.
More yoga straps from Bodhi
In addition to the classic yoga strap, you will find two other types of straps in the Bodynova online shop: The Yoga Loop and the Yoga Belt 2 in 1. The Yoga Loop can be used in exactly the same way as the classic Yoga Belt. As an arm extender, it helps you get into different asanas and correct your alignment more easily. The difference is that the yoga loop is already sewn into two loops. So you can get started right away with your yoga practice and not have to fix the strap with the help of the sliding buckle. The yoga loop is especially useful in positions where a shorter yoga belt is needed, as in the Cow Face (Gomukhasana). The four available sizes from S to XL ensure that you find the right yoga loop for every asana.
The 2 in 1 yoga belt is the perfect solution for anyone looking for a yoga strap and carry strap for their mat. Unlike a normal yoga strap, the 2 in 1 harness has two double rings at each end. After the yoga practice, you simply use the closures to make one loop at each end, put your yoga mat in the loops and off you go. In the following video you can see how it works:
